back at it

After a bit of a hiatus(ie I was really busy and didn’t have time to blog) I hope to get back to writing a bit here and there.  Summer school is down to the last week so I will have a lot more free time on my hands again.

Dear Wool Peacoat

283 Miles.  That is what seperates me from you.  I wasn’t checking the weather before I headed back to Dallas from Houston for school this week and forgot all about you.  So now I get to make due with a hoodie and a long sleeve shirt.  The lows are in the low to mid 30’s with the windchill making it feel a full 10 degrees cooler than that.  Glad I am heading back to Houston tomorrow after class for the weekend! You will be the first thing in the car when I come back next week.

As a side note, next week is my last week in Dallas!!  I have had a lot of good times here but I am ready to be back with my family.

Moving

I really hate moving, all the packing and unpacking.  I have 2 weeks before my brother and sis-in-law come up to help me move the bulk of my stuff out of my apartment in Arlington back to Houston.  This is going to be a crazy next two weeks for me.  I have a ton of readings and other stuff for class that I have to make it through and I have to pack my stuff.  The nice thing is a lot of what I moved here with ie furniture I’m either selling or donating.  This is where I tell you how much I love Craigslist!! At least someone else gets a use out of my old furniture that I don’t need anymore and it doesn’t end up in a landfill somewhere.  You never realize how much stuff you accumulate in two years until you are faced with the task of boxing it all up yourself and moving it.  Moving day is the only time I regret getting a second floor apartment.  I’m happy to be moving back home though.  The last two years have been a real learning experience for me.  God has used this time to teach me a lot about who I am, who I am not, and just what is most important to me and that would be him and my family.  It has had its rough patches for sure but I wouldn’t trade this time for anything.

Dear Blog,

I haven’t forgotten about you I promise.  Life has just gotten busy that is all.  I have lots of topics that I meant to cover but something always managed to come up.  Mainly it was after class naps and all the back episodes of survivor that I DVR’ed that I wanted to catch up on. Here is the concise version.

1. My brother and sister-in-law came to visit me when Ike blew through Houston. It only took an act of God to get them here.  We had a great extended weekend here.  I hated Dallas a little less that weekend.  Having my family here made living here the city a bit better.  Just a tip though, if you brother wants to eat dinner at the House of Blues before driving all the way to Dallas from Arlington, make sure you know who is playing that night.  That night it was Three 6 Mafia.  Yeah we so didn’t eat there.

2. School is keeping me pretty busy.  I didn’t think I would like it, but my Money & Banking class has actually turned out to be pretty interesting.  Real Estate Law is a breeze.  The real time consuming class is my Human Resource Management class.  I quite honestly think my professor was either a drill sergant or televangelist before she sought teaching as a profession.  To say she is very passionate about what she teaches is the understatement of the year.  I like the class and have had a learned a lot so far.

3.  Finally a little 4 day road trip with some really awesome friends to see a truly great band.  That I think deserves a full post rather than just a little blurb.

Thankful

My sister called me a few minutes ago and they are already in Conroe and on their way to stay with me in Dallas for the weekend.  Our house in Houston sits 23 miles inland.  At first they were going to just ride it out but decided against it this morning.  I just pray that they are able to make it here quickly and safely!

How I Spent My Summer Vacation.

September is here, and that means Summer is pretty much over.  I managed to keep myself pretty busy this summer.  Here is a run down.

1. Jamie and I flew to Charlotte, NC to see some great friends and my favorite band.  The trip was interesting to say the least. We spent 8 hours or so in Chicago in O’hare waiting on a flight that we either managed to get bumped off of, followed by a broken plane, gate changes, and then finally 2 hours on the tarmac in the plane.  That made for a long day.  I will now profess my love for the Doubletree hotels and their sweetdreams bed.  Carowinds park was really nice the next day and the show was great!  However should you ever find yourself in to make a police report in the middle of the night because someone’s car was broken into in front of a local wafflehouse, good luck with that.  I hope you know someone because that is the only way you get anything in that town.

2.  Our annual trip to Canyon Lake up near San Marcos for the fourth of July was always a blast.  This year was the first year that I was around and it was safe enough to go out on the lake.  In two hours time I managed to tip a jet ski and then slip off the boat ladder. I decided I am probably not cut out for watersports.  Jet skis were really fun though.  I’ll stick to what I am good at, outlet shopping!!

3.  Baseball games are what made the summer.  I bought us some pretty sweet tickets to see the Astros play the Red Sox.  Astros won! :-D

4. I managed to throw in a summer class at school as well.  I got my A in business law 2.  I am happy with that.

5.  I got to spend a lot of time at home with my family this summer.  That was nice to actually get to spend some quality time with them.  I miss that.
